Business Assessment
Not sure where to start? Start here.
Most business owners have a feeling that something is off — but can’t quite put their finger on what. Is it the margins? The pricing? The way cash seems to evaporate by the end of the month? Maybe all three?
Our Business Assessment is a structured, honest look under the hood. We dig into your financials and operations, tell you exactly what we find, and give you a clear roadmap for what to do next. No sugarcoating. No 80-page reports you’ll never read.
What the assessment covers
Every business is different, so we tailor the assessment to your situation. That said, there are four areas we always dig into:
Cash Flow Analysis
Cash flow is the number one thing that kills otherwise healthy businesses. We take a hard look at where your money is coming from, where it’s going, and whether the timing of those two things is working for or against you.
Revenue timing and collection patterns
Expense patterns and payment cycles
Cash flow projections for the next 3–12 months
Identification of gaps, risks, and opportunities
Profitability Assessment
Revenue is vanity. Profit is sanity. We find out which parts of your business are actually making money — and which ones are quietly eating into it.
Gross and net margin analysis by product, service, or business line
Cost structure review to identify waste or misallocation
Pricing analysis to assess whether you’re leaving money on the table
Comparison to industry benchmarks where relevant
Operational Efficiency Review
Sometimes the financial problem is actually an operational one. We look at your processes to identify what’s slowing you down, costing you more than it should, or creating unnecessary risk.
Workflow and process review for key financial functions
Systems assessment — are your tools working for you or against you?
Vendor and contract review for cost optimization opportunities
Internal controls check to reduce risk and exposure
Growth & Scalability Analysis
Wanting to grow and being ready to grow are two different things. We assess whether your financial and operational infrastructure can handle what’s next — and tell you what needs to be in place before you step on the gas.
Capacity analysis — what growth can your current structure support?
Financial infrastructure gaps that need to be addressed before scaling
Funding needs assessment and options overview
Priority roadmap: what to fix first, and why
What you walk away with
At the end of the assessment, you’ll receive a clear, written summary of our findings — not a jargon-filled report, but a plain-language document you can actually use. It will include:
A summary of what’s working well (there’s always something)
A clear-eyed view of what’s not
A prioritized list of recommendations, with context for why each one matters
Suggested next steps — whether that’s working with us or just knowing what to tackle yourself
We’ll also walk you through the findings in person (or on a call), so you have the chance to ask questions and leave with full clarity.
This is probably right for you if…
You’re starting a new business and want to model startup costs and revenue forecasts before you commit
Your business is profitable on paper but you’re always short on cash
You’re thinking about expanding but not sure if you can afford to
Something feels off but you can’t figure out what
You’ve never had anyone take a comprehensive look at your business finances
You want an outside perspective before making a major decision
A few things people wonder about
How long does the assessment take?
It depends on the size and complexity of your business, but most assessments are completed within 2–3 weeks. We’ll give you a specific timeline once we understand your situation.
What do you need from us?
Mostly financial records — ideally 12–24 months of income statements, balance sheets, and bank statements. We’ll give you a clear list of what to pull together. The more complete the picture, the more useful our findings.
What happens after the assessment?
That’s completely up to you. Some clients take the roadmap and run with it themselves. Others choose to work with us on an ongoing basis to implement the recommendations. We’ll lay out what ongoing support could look like — but there’s no obligation, and no hard sell.
Is this just a pitch for your other services?
We get why you’d wonder that. Honestly, sometimes the assessment reveals that you don’t need much ongoing help at all — and we’ll tell you so. We’d rather give you a useful, honest assessment than oversell services you don’t need.
